As a strategic initiative to strengthen DTU Aqua's overall effort in the Arctic, a new Arctic section has been established at DTU Aqua.

Initially, DTU Aqua’s new Arctic Section will focus on collaboration with the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources (GINR), and be looking at opportunities to strengthen the institute’s hydro-acoustic and seabed mapping activities.

Focus will also be on the instrumentation of a new research vessel which is expected to be built within a few years as a substitute for the research vessel Dana. The new vessel is planned to be designed to be able also to operate in the Arctic solving research and monitoring tasks for GINR.

Furthermore, the Arctic Section will aim at strengthening the collaboration with other departments at DTU including DTU Space (Polar DTU) and DTU Civil Engineering  (ARTEK) as well as establish networks both nationally and internationally with relevant research institutions and authorities in relation to the Arctic.
