Workshop invites industrial partners and researchers to share newest knowledge and developments in recirculation aquaculture technology
The 5th international NordicRAS workshop is held 7-8 October 2019 in Berlin. The workshop is organized by the NordicRAS Network, led by DTU Aqua, and is now open for registration. This year, there is room for 250 participants.
Focus will be on newest knowledge and developments in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). Recirculating aquaculture systems are characterized by cleaning and reuse of water, enabling fish farmers to reduce and control the discharge of excess nutrients. As a result, environmental impacts are considerably reduced compared to “old-fashion” flow-through systems where there is little cleaning of water before it is discharged to a local stream.
The workshop is aimed at fish farmers, managers, technology- and service providers, engineers, veterinarians, researchers and others with a professional interest in RAS.
Among this year’s topics are: water treatment technologies, microbiology in RAS, particles and particle removal, advanced oxidation processes (AOP), sensors and online-monitoring, sludge and waste treatment, disinfection and therapeutants in RAS, fish health and welfare in RAS, and marine RAS.
Aquaculture is an important contributor towards elimination of hunger
Aquaculture recirculation technology may help mitigate the world’s food problems explains Senior Researcher Anne Johanne Tang Dalsgaard, DTU Aqua.
“Aquaculture is one of the world’s fastest growing food industries given an increasing demand for fish and shellfish from a growing human population. Such growth in aquaculture must take place in a sustainable manner and here, recirculation technology plays an essential role because it is possible to control and reduce environmental impacts,” says Anne Johanne Tang Nielsen, NordicRAS network coordinator and workshop organizer.
Workshop back-to-back with large European aquaculture conference
This time, the NordicRAS workshop is held at the same venue as Aquaculture Europe 2019—a large European conference and trade show on aquaculture (AE2019).
The two events are organized sequentially so that NordicRAS participants may continue to AE2019 when the workshop ends. This way, participants wishing to attend both events need travel only once and may furthermore register at a reduced fee.
Registration to the NordicRAS workshop is open until 20 September 2019 or until all seats are taken. Abstracts addressing one or more workshop topics are welcome and should be submitted no later than 1 August 2019.
