The importance of sandbanks and mussel reefs in the marine ecosystems
Many habitats and species in the sea do not meet the conservation targets adopted 30 years ago with the EU's Habitats Directive. This is particularly evident in the Kattegat-Skagerrak. Now, as part of a new EU project, DTU Aqua must find out what role sand and gravel banks and mussel reefs play in marine ecosystems.

National Institute of Aquatic Resources
National Institute of Aquatic Resources (DTU Aqua) conducts research, provides advice, educates at university level and contributes to innovation in sustainable exploitation and management of aquatic resources. We investigate the biology and population ecology of aquatic organisms, aquatic physical and chemical processes and ecosystem structure and dynamics, taking account of all relevant natural and anthropogenic drivers.
