Survey
Dana on a survey in the Norwegian Sea
The research vessel Dana is collecting data on the past ice-sheet across the mid-Norwegian margin.
From 22 to 31 May 2026, Dana is on a survey in the Norwegian Sea chartered by Newcastle University, UK.
The survey is part of the TERN project, which aims to reveal the timing and rate of past ice-sheet retreat across the mid-Norwegian margin. It will do this by acquiring the first systematic transect of gravity cores across the mid-Norwegian shelf.
The generated data will be linked with the well-known pattern of ice-sheet retreat across this margin and provide insights into the likely future behaviour of ice-sheets under climate warming.
The cruise is supported by POLARIN (Polar Research Infrastructure Network).
