DTU Aqua hosts an excellent updated molecular genomics laboratory for extracting, amplifying and analyzing DNA and RNA samples from all kinds of templates ranging from water samples to tissue including DNA from historical scales, bones and otoliths.
This includes instruments for measuring DNA quantity and quality, for quantitative and digital PCR (qPCR and dPCR) and for high throughput microsatellite and SNP analysis, as well as next generation sequencing equipment.
The facilities also feature two dedicated “clean labs” for manipulating sensitive samples with little DNA content and high contamination risk, such as environmental DNA and DNA from historical samples.
The practical analyses are performed by highly trained and experienced laboratory technicians.

DTU Aqua’s research in population genetics aims at gaining knowledge which can be applied for sustainable management of aquatic resources in relation to both recreational and commercial fisheries, biodiversity conservation and aquaculture.
